The Invincibles: The 1974 British and Irish Lions Tour of South Africa
Available on DVD from www.digitalclassics.co.uk and all major retailers. An extraordinary moment in the world of sport and politics In 1974 the South African apartheid regime was under worldwide condemnation; in defiance of a developing international policy to isolate South Africa, the British and Irish Lions rugby team controversially accepted the invitation to tour the country and play a test series against their ancient rivals, the Springboks. The resulting series was one of the most violent in Lions history; yet those 22 matches produced remarkable rugby, including many memorable tries. The Lions enjoyed unparalleled success and with some of the greatest players ever to grace the game, they went unbeaten, going down in rugby legend as The Invincibles. This film, which includes unique personal footage from the players, is both a thrilling celebration of a remarkable rugby team and a poignant reminder of the scale of change in South Africa since that landmark tour. Interviews include personal insights from the following: Willie-John McBride, Gareth Edwards, JJ Williams, JPR Williams, Fran Cotton, Roger Uttley, Fergus Slattery, Makhenkesi Stofile ( Minister of Sport RSA) and Peter Hain MP.

Boerewors burger recipe from Heston and Waitrose
No South African Braai (barbecue) is complete without a Boerewors - a coiled sausage of spiced pork and beef mince. Heston's version of this classic summer dish is for burgers (rather than sausages) but with the same traditional spices. Josh/EJ - Union Buildings Pretoria, Capital Building South Africa
The Union Buildings form the official seat of the South African government and also house the offices of the President of South Africa. The imposing buildings are located in Pretoria, atop Meintjieskop at the Northern end of Arcadia, close to historic Church Square and the Voortrekker Monument. The large gardens of the Buildings are nestled between Government Avenue, Vermeulen Street East, Church Street, the R104, and Blackwood Street. Fairview Avenue is a closed road where only officials can enter to the Union Buildings. Though not in the center of Pretoria the Union Buildings occupy the highest point of Pretoria, and constitute a South African National monument. The Buildings are one of the centres of political life in South Africa; "The Buildings" and "Arcadia" have become metonyms for the South African Government. It has become an iconic landmark of Pretoria and South Africa in general, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city and an emblem of democracy. The Buildings are the location of Presidential Inaugurations.
